This is the fourth PocketBook in my family, and it is faster and more comfortable to work with the 626 model and with a large screen than the 740. Ideal for reading technical literature in DJVU and PDF.

Tips for choosing an e-book

The first criterion for evaluating a device is the type of display. There are two options here: LCD or E-Ink screen.

A device with an LCD screen will allow you to read books, watch videos, play, turn on the navigator. This is an inexpensive version of a tablet with a color image and Internet access. The device is not suitable for constant reading and needs frequent recharging, like all phones and tablets.

Read-only e-books are provided with an E-Ink screen. It imitates ordinary paper, no light is directed into the user's eyes, so the readers do not harm the eyesight. The screen of these devices does not glare in the sun. Books consume energy only when turning pages and can hold a charge for a month or more. The screen usually shows only shades of gray, so it is not suitable for viewing photos. Readers that transmit different colors are also on sale, but they will cost significantly more.

The next important factor is the number of formats that the book recognizes. The more there are, the easier it will be to work with the device.

The volume of the built-in memory of an e-book should be given special attention if you read comics or study technical literature with tables and formulas. Such files take up a lot of space, which means that you will additionally need a memory card.

The battery life is also important. But, if the book suits you according to all other criteria, then the time without a charge is no longer so critical. Most readers are charged in just an hour and a half, and they work for more than a week.

Personal preference should also be taken into account. If you often read comics, study tables, open pdf files, then books with a 6-inch screen will be uncomfortable. Of course, the picture can be enlarged, but you have to constantly shift the image on the screen.

To users who first pick up an e-book, it may seem that it is very slow. After smartphones, tablets and computers, the response of the reader really seems to be long, but you get used to it. After all, the book does not require a quick reaction, you just need to open the literature in the library, turn the pages and change the settings.

Many readers provide Internet access, but this is not the most useful feature. Especially if the screen of the book is not touch-sensitive.
