The Cambridge Audio AXR85 is the junior two-channel receiver in the brand's new AX series and delivers 85 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Cambridge Audio emphasizes that the AX line, which sits a step above the lowest-cost Topaz components, has borrowed from the top Edge and CX series.
On board the stereo receiver there is a high-quality AM / FM tuner with RDS and thirty presets (selected using the standard remote control or buttons on the front panel), as well as a Bluetooth module that supports Bluetooth version 5 and provides wireless audio streaming from smartphones, tablets and computers ... In this case, only the SBC audio codec is used.
The model is assembled in a full-size case, made in a neat classic design. A small display is built into the front panel. There is also a 6.3 mm headphone output and a mini-jack for connecting iPods and other portable MP3 players. Using the rotary knob located on the right side of the front, you can adjust the volume level, timbres and balance (the required mode is selected with the MENU button). The Cambridge Audio AXR85 integrates an MM phono pre-amplifier board that allows turntables equipped with MM cartridges or MC heads with high output (over 2 mV) and impedance over 30 kΩ to be connected to the stereo receiver. Low output MC cartridges require a separate dedicated phono stage or step-up transformer. The cooling system of the internal elements of the model uses a fan that is activated when a certain temperature is reached. The receiver has a switchable Auto Power Down (APD) function to automatically put it into standby mode after a certain period of inactivity.
On the rear side of the case, in addition to phono preamp connectors, there is a set of RCA line inputs, as well as a fixed line-out for recording (RCA) and a jack for connecting an active subwoofer, with which you can accentuate the bass component of an audio system. Four pairs of screw terminals make it easy to bi-wire or connect two pairs of 8-ohm speakers and place them in different rooms. At the same time, Cambridge Audio AXR85 can work even with 4-ohm speakers, however, the manufacturer does not recommend using two pairs of speakers with an impedance of 4 ohms at the same time. The model is equipped with a universal remote control that allows you to control not only the receiver, but also Cambridge Audio CD players from the AX line.
