Rating of voltage stabilizers for a gas boiler

Voltage stabilizers convert the input unstable voltage from the mains (high, low, abrupt) into a stable value for the normal operation of electrical appliances connected to it.

Main types

  • servo... They are otherwise called electromechanical. This is the simplest design that has come from the times of the USSR. The principle of operation of such a device is to use an autotransformer, along the windings of which carbon brushes move. When the input voltage changes, the position of the brushes is changed by the servo motor, which generates a set voltage of 240 V 50 Hz at the output. Such constructions are simple and cheap, but their speed does not allow solving the problem in the required mode. The time difference between the change and the reaction of the device to it allows the boiler electronics to operate in a dangerous mode for a moment. Because of this, control boards often burn out, despite the connected stabilizer;
  • relay... The device of these devices resembles the operation of an autotransformer. Its coils are divided into several sections giving different values. When changing the power supply parameters in the network, a special relay switches the sections, correcting the output value of the device. These stabilizers are relatively inexpensive, but have a large error value (usually 8%) associated with the step type of regulation. In addition, the speed of the relay stabilizers is low, which jeopardizes the delicate electronics of the gas boiler. Reliability and low maintenance requirements are considered the advantages of relay devices;
  • thyristor... These are modified versions of relay stabilizers. The difference is that instead of a relay, the switching of the windings occurs at the command of the thyristors. This greatly increases the performance, as well as the service life of the device. Such designs can withstand up to a billion switchings without loss of performance. The disadvantages of thyristor devices include a discrete (stepwise) switching nature, which sets a high error at the output (the same 8%);
  • inverter stabilizers... These are the most accurate and high-speed devices. Otherwise, they are called double conversion stabilizers. They have a different design. There is no autotransformer, which makes the devices lightweight and compact. The principle of operation is also changed - the input alternating current is passed through the filter and becomes constant. A certain amount of energy is stored in the capacitor in order to give charge at the right time to maintain the flow parameters, and then it is converted back to alternating current with a given value. All actions are carried out with lightning speed, in a continuous mode. The output values are infinitely adjustable with high precision. The only drawback of the devices is the high cost.

The most effective models are inverter stabilizers, however, all other devices are in demand and are used to work with various equipment.

Criterias of choice

The choice of stabilizer is influenced by the following factors:

  • power... This parameter determines the ability of the stabilizer to provide performance when high loads appear;
  • input voltage type... There are single- and three-phase devices that can handle different voltage ranges. When buying, it is necessary to clarify what the minimum and maximum value of the device is able to overcome. The greater the value, the better;
  • stabilizer type... The most efficient designs include inverter models. However, alternative species are equally effective in their respective fields. For the right choice, you should know the features of your networks, the magnitude of normal voltage fluctuations and other specific data;
  • installation method... There are floor and wall mounting options.Usually floor models are more massive, and wall models are compact and weigh less;
  • minimum input voltage... This value is important for residents of remote villages or areas with high loads on the power grid. The lower the voltage that the stabilizer is able to adjust, the more confidence in its effectiveness;
  • short circuit protection... For modern models, this function is included in the list of mandatory features. However, there are devices that are not equipped with this ability. It is recommended to check its availability;
  • device speed... This is an important parameter that reflects the rate of voltage leveling after a surge. The lower the value, the better for the boiler control board;
  • additional functions... This includes built-in protection, the presence of a grounding electrode and other options. As a rule, the list of additional possibilities is not too wide, since an extra load is contraindicated for devices.
